Bank of Valletta and HSBC Bank Malta are spearheading an initiative to promote Malta as a destination for inward investment by sponsoring and participating in a Financial Times business conference which is being organised by The Banker magazine in association with the Malta Financial Services Authority.

Entitled “Banking on Malta – opportunities and challenges for inward investment”, this conference is taking place at the London Stock Exchange next Tuesday, 4 April.

The main aim of this conference is to showcase Malta as an ideal location for international business and foreign direct investment through its favourable economic and political climate, pro-business regulatory regime and professional financial services.

The conference will be addressed by Bank of Valletta chairman Roderick Chalmers and the chief executive officer of HSBC Bank Malta, Shaun Wallis.

In his presentation, Mr Chalmers will give a banker’s view of key domestic and international activities of the Maltese banking sector and highlight where the next areas of growth are likely to be and how Bank of Valletta is positioning itself to make the best of these opportunities.

Mr Wallis will deliver a presentation about HSBC’s views on the Maltese economy, focusing on the main developments and trends and highlight the benefits of investing in Malta. He will also share his firsthand knowledge of the HSBC experience of doing business in Malta.

The distinguished panel of speakers for this event will also include Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Tonio Fenech, Central Bank Governor Michael Bonello, and chairman of the Malta Financial Services Authority, Professor Joe Bannister.
