The Bay Street complex is fast making a name for itself as the venue for first-time events. Last weekend, Bay Street hosted the first ever 24-hour Martial Arts and Massage Marathon in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust Fund.

Visitors crowded the complex to watch with fascination the many participants as well as the marathon’s main guest, the well-known Martial Arts superstar Silvio Simac who captivated all those present with his Martial Arts skills. The growing local interest in this art was evidenced by the number of organisations participating in the marathon as well as the crowds attending.

Silvio Simac, a well-known personality in the Martial Arts world is in fact a World Gold Medallist, a 14-time British Champion and a four-time European Champion. He has participated in a number of films and recently exploded onto the TV screens as one of the stars of Masters of Combat, a revolutionary BBC 2 game show based around the martial arts. Silvio himself claims that he became a better person after involving himself in martial arts as it gave him self-confidence, discipline and esteem.

The organiser of the 24-hour Marathon, Adrian Axisa, said that his main aim was to promote awareness of this sport in an effort to help people live a better life through arts and sports, to possibly help them keep away from detrimental addictions and to support the worthy cause of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
