Capt. Gauci, a lecturer at the MCAST Maritime Institute, has written a text book that gives a mathematical approach to the subject of navigation.

The writer graduated with honours in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Malta in 1969. Soon after becoming a teacher of Science with the Education Department he was awarded a scholarship to study Meteorology in the UK.

On his return to Malta, Capt. Gauci embarked on a long and successful career as a meteorologist at the Luqa Meteorological Office becoming Chief Meteorologist and Permanent Representative of Malta to the World Meteorological Organisation.

During his last years of service, even before his retirement from the airport, he was already lecturing mathematics and meteorology on a part-time basis at the MCAST Maritime Institute.

While at MCAST, he came up with the idea of a text book that gives a mathematical approach to the subject of navigation.
