Malta Independent Saturday, 22 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Liquid that was found on a statue of Our Lady in a private home was human blood, the Curia said in a statement yesterday.

The Curia was reacting to a report carried in the Maltese daily newspaper In-Nazzjon yesterday.

The report said that a Maltese family had seen liquid coming out of the eyes of a statue of Our Lady, and had reported the matter to the Maltese ecclesiastical authorities.

In a statement, the Curia said that a few weeks ago it had received a report that red liquid had come out of a statue of Our Lady in a private residence.

Investigations carried out by the Maltese Church authorities showed that the liquid in question was human blood.

More recently, another report was received that red liquid had again come out of the eyes of the same statue. The Curia said it is investigating the matter.
