Among the major contributing factors to the strength of the Emirates brand, there has always been the quality and high standards maintained by the multi-national cabin crew.

Emirates now has a complement of 5,600 cabin crew, with 1,200 newcomers who have joined in 2005.

Continuous recruitment drives across the globe – particularly in areas on the Emirates passenger route network, including Malta – have resulted in a truly multicultural talent base of more than 100 different nationalities among Emirates cabin crew.

Emirates’ Recruitment Team will be holding its second Open Day in Malta on Saturday at the Intercontinental Hotel, St George’s Bay, at 9am for applicants to learn about the Dubai-based airline.

Successful candidates from the Open Day will be invited to attend further interviews on the following Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Here are answers to some questions asked by prospective candidates.

What does the Open Day include?

Candidates should be prepared to stay for the whole day. The Recruitment Team will present an introductory video on Emirates, Dubai and what the job entails. Candidates may be asked to sit for a test in English.

What is the recruitment process like?

Interested candidates will be shortlisted and undergo an initial screening. Many, but not all of the candidates will then be observed in various assessment exercises. Finally an interview will be arranged a few days later for those identified as possessing potential for Emirates Cabin Crew. Those who do not make it through the initial screening process may reapply after six months while those who do not make it through after the interviews may reapply after one year.

What does Emirates look for in potential candidates for cabin crew?

Emirates interviewers will look for a positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, maturity, a friendly disposition and importantly, a genuine passion to help others and to provide quality service. As the job can be very tiring and busy, Emirates interviewers will look for those with a resilience and commitment to continually perform well in a job that can be very demanding.

What are the requisites?

Candidates need to have a high school level education and be able to speak English fluently. Additional languages are an asset but not a requirement. In Dubai, English is widely spoken as is Arabic.

What training do the selected candidates get and where?

Intensive five-week training is conducted in English and takes place at the Emirates Aviation College in Dubai. This includes the practical and theoretical aspects of safety, first aid and service including aircraft modules. The trainees on each course are normally a rich cultural mix. There are regular assessments with stringent pass marks for each module. Hence a high standard of performance and dedication is required.
