Malta Independent Wednesday, 3 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

With the intention of disclosing their summer plans and activities, L-Ghonnella Restaurant set up and carried out a presentation aimed at tour operators and DMC personnel.

The presentation, conducted by Raymond Borg, operations manager of the restaurant, lasted well over an hour and focused on an array of fun ideas that will define what they have chosen to call “Maltese food and Wine Matching Nights”. These nights will serve as a means to showcase the Maltese cuisine at its finest for Maltese and foreign dining guests alike.

During the gathering, held in the gardens of the Palazzo Spinola where L-Ghonnella operates, Mr Borg introduced the owner of the restaurant, Joe Gauci, and other key members of the staff.

Speaking about the new concept, Mr Borg explained that it offers a complete package.

An array of Maltese dishes will be served together with carefully selected Malta grown quality wines from Malta’s leading wineries, Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker and Marsovin. Both companies will take weekly turns in showing off their best wines.

The gourmet evening will unfold itself as a unique dining experience uplifted by culture, education and fun. Entertainment will be provided by the Paul Curmi Dancers, while Tony Camilleri (l-ghannej) will entertain keep guests entertained throughout the whole evening.

In turn, Georges Meekers, Head of Sales of Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker, applauded the idea of matching each one of six food courses on the menu with a respective wine from Delicata’s wine portfolio, which now comprises no less than 20 Malta grown quality wines. He wholeheartedly believes in the concept of offering “a fresh taste of Malta”.

Silvio Tonna Sommelier and Graziella Scerri Business Development Manager from Marsovin went on to explain the strategic reasons which from a business standpoint, compelled their firm to back L-Ghonnella’s new venture. Marsovin has long been in the forefront of promoting the local wine culture and their internationally award-winning premium wines which come from their privately owned estates.

The concept of marrying food with these wines really does offer a unique taste of Malta. L-Ghonnella’s venture is definitely one to be applauded!

The presentation culminated with a show of the Cellar restaurant which is situated in the 17th century Spinola Palace.
