Pull The rope for charity

Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

On Sunday, everyone who had ever wanted to test their strength against some of Malta’s most robust guys can do so by gathering some of their friends and battling against the Alligators Rugby Team in a Tug-of-War. This activity is one of many being held during the Vodafone Malta Foundation Family Day at Mellieha Bay to celebrate Unesco’s International Day of Families and at the same time raise funds for Caritas and The Eden Foundation.

The winning Tug-of-War team will win a weekend or two days stay in Gozo, thanks to Gozo Farmhouses Ltd.

This fun-packed day will also feature food and drink stalls, games for all the family, a penalty shoot-out with leading goalkeepers including Mario Muscat, Sean Sullivan, Omar Borg, Simon Agius, Jason Cordina, Omar Borg, Matthew Camilleri, Manoel Bartolo, Ernest Barry, and the TeamSport Beach Soccer Tournament.

Other attractions will include an air-to-sea rescue demonstration by the Armed Forces of Malta and a dog and horse show by the Malta Police Force. The highlight of the event will be an attempt by Daniel Abela to cross the 1.2 kilometre wide Mellieha Bay underwater and back, in which he will be assisted by the DART Volunteers. At 5.00pm, Mass will be celebrated by Mgr Victor Grech.

Money raised during the event will also go towards the setting up of Malta’s first electronic medical journal, which will be coordinated by leading paediatric cardiologist Dr Victor Grech.
