Malta Independent Friday, 19 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Outgoing president of the University Students’ Council (KSU), Anthony F. Camilleri, has been elected to the committee of the Commodification of Education (COCO), Trans-national Education (TNE) and the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS).

Mr Camilleri was by-elected during the 50th board meeting of ESIB, the umbrella organisation of the National Unions of Students in Europe.

ESIB brings together 44 national unions of students from 34 countries, representing over 10 million students. The aim of ESIB is to represent and promote the educational, social, economic and cultural interests of students at a European level towards all relevant bodies and in particular the European Union, Council of Europe and Unesco.

Mr Camilleri’s six-month mandate in the committee involves the gathering and dissemination of information with regard to higher education, as well as to facilitate ESIB’s activities and formulation of policies on these topics.

He was elected with a majority of 56 out of 60 votes cast. Mr Camilleri said: “I am delighted to have been elected to this post which will allow me to continue to represent Maltese students throughout Europe. It is also extremely satisfying to see our peers recognising the high quality of student representation in Malta and affirming KSU’s position as one of the leading student representative bodies within Europe.”
