Following the success of Katanga!, the Malta Drama Centre and St James Cavalier, Centre for Creativity will be presenting a repeat performance with the added participation of Maltese artists on Sunday at 8pm.
Katangan refugees will once again give an exhilarating performance with their stories, rhythms and choreography. Local authors will read original works inspired by the lives and stories of immigrants. The evening will also include a multimedia photographic presentation by award-winning photographer, Darrin Zammit Lupi.
This project aims to pay homage to the expressive, creative power of the Africans that fate pushed on our shores. Mario Azzopardi, Director of the Malta Drama Centre commented that “the performance is a statement in favour of their inalienable right to give vent to their own culture, a right which is endorsed by International Conventions”.
It is also an act of solidarity with Black people who unfortunately, are often the victims of prejudice and misconceptions. Chris Gatt, general manager of St James Cavalier stated that 'this performance will once again celebrate the cultural identity of Katanga and the African continent and at the same time provide a creative platform for local artists to express the issues threatening the celebration of such diversity'.
Tickets at Lm2.50 are available from St. James Cavalier. Bookings can be made through the box office on 21 223 200 or [email protected]
