A man was yesterday jailed for six months suspended for a year after pleading guilty to seriously injuring his partner, who is the mother of his child, on Wednesday.
Antoine Schembri, 24, from Birkirkara, pleaded guilty to seriously injuring Erica Ciantar at their home in Birkirkara. Ms Ciantar sustained injuries to her face.
The court, presided over by magistrate Michael Mallia, heard the man plead guilty to the charges brought against him and handed down the judgement after hearing Ms Ciantar testifying that she had forgiven Schembri for what he had done to her during an argument over a banal issue. Schembri and Ms Ciantar were observed leaving the Law Courts hand in hand following the sitting.
Police inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted while Dr Chris Cardona represented the accused.
