Donations To Maltese charities

Malta Independent Wednesday, 31 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Once again, the US Ambassador’s residence was the venue for a cheque presentation to Maltese charitable institutions. US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro distributed cheques from money amounting to approximately Lm26,000 that had been raised by the New-York based Foundation for Maltese Charities, Inc. Irene Piscopo Rogers, whose father was a founder member of the foundation, was also present at the donation ceremony.

The foundation raises money for Maltese charities in the US and Canada. Over the years, it has raised over a million dollars, and has donated funds to more than 50 Maltese institutions. The foundation’s board serves in a voluntary capacity, and all the money raised is donated. In recent years, a number of Maltese Americans have also left bequests to the foundation to be distributed to their designated charities in Malta.

The foundation recently announced that Mary Therese Sultana was to be appointed as president of the foundation. She succeeds Frank Asphar, one of the founding members of the Foundation, who passed away in December 2005.
