4,198 People over 61 in the workforce

There are currently 4,198 people over the age of 61 who are in the workforce, Education Youth and Employment Minister Louis Galea told parliament. The highest number of these – 882 – work as legislators, senior officials and managers, 831 work in elementary operations and 644 work in the professional sector. Dr Galea was replying to Labour MP Adrian Vassallo.

One mobile phone in three years for Justice and Home Affairs Ministry

Just one mobile phone, costing Lm150, was purchased during the three years 2003-5 by the Justice and Home Affairs Ministry, Minister Tonio Borg told Labour MP Joe Debono Grech in a reply to a parliamentary question.

Relocation of Floriana SMEs refused – Minister Mugliett

The Malta Environmental and Planning Authority refused an application submitted by the Malta Transport Authority for the relocation of industrial garages from their current site close to Spencer Hill in Floriana to the Park and Ride Area in Blata l-Bajda, Urban Development and Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett told parliament. He was replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Roderick Galdes.

LM75,023 spent on fuel

During the first four months of 2006, the Rural Affairs and the Environment Ministry spent a total of Lm75,023 on fuel, Minister George Pullicino told parliament. Lm19,531 was used for transport purposes while Lm55,492 was used for other purposes, the minister said, replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Noel Farrugia.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spent Lm10,471 on fuel in 2006

The Foreign Affairs Ministry spent Lm9,976.13 in fuel for transport in 2004, Lm11,008.78 in 2005 and Lm10,471.11 in 2006, Minister Michael Frendo told parliament. The ministry spent Lm6,020.55 for heating purposes in 2004, Lm6,438.18 in 2005 and Lm7,866.71 in 2006. The transport expenses include those of the Forum Malta fl-Ewropa and all embassies abroad, the minister told Labour MP Noel Farrugia in a reply to a parliamentary question.

No rats at school

Only one mouse had been caught in a trap at the school in Lorenzo Manché Street in Floriana, said Education, Youth and Employment Minister Louis Galea. A facilitator had refused to enter the workshop until the mouse had been removed, he added, in response to a PQ by Labour MP Carmelo Abela.

Two small silver objects were stolen from Girgenti Palace in Siggiewi on 24 March of this year, Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg told Labour MP Charles Buhagiar.

3,812 on waiting list for cataract operations

There are 3,812 people currently on the waiting list for a cataract operation, Health Minister Louis Deguara told Labour MP Chris Agius. 103 operations had been performed in January, 92 in February, 87 in March, 86 in April and 85 in May.
