Genesis

Malta Independent Saturday, 10 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Keith Balzan will be showing an exhibition of his art entitled Genesis, at St James Cavalier between 7 July – 15 August

Keith’s forte is his pencil drawings, his sketches in pen and ink, his ink and washes. His graphic works in a contrast of black and white reveal his expressive powers, his forceful character. He loves dark, obscure colours and a chromatic palette to obtain a dynamic punch and almost violent impact. His emotional and expressionistic art surfaces in his use of block black, blazing reds, flaming yellow and murky blues. He owes this stance to his own philosophy, method and approach and to the influence of some of the great masters of Expressionism: Vincent Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Edward Munch and Franz Marc.

Keith currently teaches art at Guzeppi Despott Boys’ Junior Lyceum, Cottonera and at Carlo Diacono Girls’ Junior Lyceum, Zejtun.
