The New Choral Singers, under the direction of Robert Calleja, are presenting ‘Songs for Summer’, a concert in aid of Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija. The concert will be held at the historic Torri Lanzun in Mensija, San Gwann, (opposite Mensija Chapel) on Friday at 8pm.
Following a highly successful year wherein The New Choral Singers performed at a variety of events including the Arts & Music Festival held at the Holy Trinity Church, and a joint concert with the German Freundschaft Choir, all proceeds from this fund raising concert will be donated to Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija; this is the first concert in the choir’s calendar of events for 2006.
Since this concert anticipates the arrival of summer, a repertoire of light and varied pieces including madrigals, choruses and arias from popular operas, Negro-spirituals and traditional Maltese songs, has been appropriately selected for this evening of musical entertainment.
Donations collected from this concert will contribute to cover part of the expenses of a new project, the “ICT Lab” that Razzett tal-Hbiberija is currently planning. This computer lab will be specifically built to allow people with intellectual disability to use computers with the aim of increasing their abilities by making use of a variety of computer software and specialised hardware.
Razzett tal-Hbiberija, which provides complimentary services to over 1,000 people with disabilities, incurs a yearly expenditure of Lm300,000. This organisation is highly dependent on continuous fund-raising activities such as this one in order to survive.
Members of the general public are welcome to attend the concert, which will be followed by refreshments in the courtyard, against a donation of Lm4 per person. Advance bookings are recommended and can be made at ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija on telephone number 2163 6533 or via e-mail at [email protected].
