Malta Independent Saturday, 1 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Producers of Puerto Flamenco Francesca Grima and Andrej Vujicic will premiere a new version of their show with five prominent Spanish artists this weekend.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Ms Grima said that legendary flamenco dancer Carmelilla Montoya will participate in the event.

“Puerto flamenco events are an ideal showcase of cultural collaboration between Maltese and Spanish artists on a truly international level,” she said.

Valletta and Grand Harbour will be the main location for the production, thus incorporating cultural events and tourism.

Valletta mayor Paul Borg Olivier said these events open up new venues for cultural evenings in Valletta. “There are so many hidden areas in Valletta which are perfect for these cultural events.”

Spanish Ambassador Dona Marta Vilardell said Puerto Flamenco is an excellent joint venture between Malta and Spain’s similar cultures.

Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said these events are a magnet for tourism and acts as an opening for future cultural activities.

The event will take place on Saturday 1 July and Sunday 2 July at the Customs House Quay.

Tickets cost Lm7 and are available from St James Cavalier or at the door.
