Gzira mayor Albert Rizzo filed two libel suits against the Gzira councillors elected on behalf of the Malta Labour Party and against one of the MLP councillors over what he claimed were defamatory allegations made about him.

The first libel suit was filed by Mr Rizzo and the Gzira executive secretary Romina Camilleri against councillors Anthony Grech, Joseph Zammit and Anthony Abela over an article that appeared in the General Workers’ Union daily newspaper l-orizzont on 12 May 2006.

The other libel suit was filed by Mr Rizzo against Labour councillor Anthony Grech alone over allegations he made during a council meeting held on 27 April 2006.

Dr Joe Giglio signed the two suits.
