A Syrian man living in Gzira was yesterday charged with trying to seriously injure a police sergeant and four police constables when he hurled glass objects in their direction and threatened them with a knife.
Jihad Alloudami, 35, was accused of attempting to seriously injure the five police officers in Sliema Road in Gzira at 11am on Monday.
He was also charged with threatening to kill them and disturbing them from carrying out their duties as well as being in possession of a weapon without a licence issued by the police commissioner. He was further charged with disobeying police orders and resisting his arrest.
Mr Alloudami was also charged with threatening to kill Raymond Caruana, Rachel Fenech and Stephen Muscat and with slightly injuring the latter.
Before Magistrate Antonio Mizzi, the man pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was refused bail and was remanded in custody.
Police Inspector Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted.
