Maltese Nationals evacuated from Lebanon

Malta Independent Tuesday, 18 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A total of four families will be repatriated to Malta from Lebanon according to a Foreign Affairs spokesperson.

One person was flown back to Malta last week soon after the first bombings.

Another two families will be flown back this week with the assistance of the British High Commission while the fourth person will arrive tomorrow.

Last week Maltese nationals who wished to return to Malta were asked to register with the Maltese or other European consulates in Lebanon.

“There is a very small community of Maltese people in Lebanon – the people who requested repatriation were couples or individuals,” said the Foreign Affairs spokesperson. The spokesperson also said that three Maltese Jesuits working in Lebanon were contacted and are safe.
