Din L-Art Helwa, and Nature Trust (Malta) yesterday called on the government to reconsider its position on the development boundaries.
The NGOs said that land use was a major and limited resource to the Maltese islands and that this was highlighted in the state of the Environment Report by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.
The two leading environmental NGOs appealed to all MPs to show their environmental credentials and vote against such rationalisation, “in this way they can show future generations that they were responsible members of parliament with a conscience to truly protect the natural environment”.
The NGOs said that a decision in favour of such rationalisation will not improve the economy or social issues but simply deprive the public of their natural heritage that has become endangered.
