Educational Resources through Vodafone Malta Foundation

Malta Independent Wednesday, 19 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Vodafone Malta Foundation is supporting the Mental Health Association (MHA) by sponsoring the production of three children’s books that have been distributed in every primary school in Malta.

These publications were also distributed to guidance teachers, school teachers and families as part of MHA’s initiative to help youngsters better understand the causes and nature of mental health problems.

“Education has always played a key role in helping people to better understand and accept those who suffer from particular problems. Tackling issues of stigma and exclusion in society can be an arduous task. For those who suffer from mental health problems, society’s prejudice can be an addition to their anguish. Through this project, Vodafone Malta Foundation would like to show its appreciation to the dedication shown by the MHA in its mission,” said Gemma Mifsud Bonnici, chairperson from the Vodafone Malta Foundation.

Each of these books tells a different story featuring a sibling, a mother, and a father, who suffer from mental health problems. Apart from distribution of books, MHA members have also visited schools to generate further awareness on understanding mental health problems’ nature and cause.
