The US Coast Guard Cutter Northland (WMEC 904) and units of the Armed Forces of Malta’s (AFM) Maritime and Air Squadrons participated in a highly successful one-day training exercise off Valletta on 17July.

With both the US Coast Guard and the AFM sharing many common roles and missions, the two services worked well together in practicing maritime law enforcement and migrant boardings, repair and assistance team training, and seamanship drills.

Crews from both countries worked side-by-side during the training evolutions, sharing procedures and techniques and exchanging best practices.

The Northland is currently on a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and West Africa to enhance interoperability and maritime domain awareness.
