Contemporary Theatre arts workshop sessions

Malta Independent Sunday, 23 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Open workshop sessions in contemporary theatre technique will be held on 7, 8 and 9 August from 9am till noon at the MITP theatre in Valletta. These sessions, part of SUPA 2006 (Summer University of Performing Arts) and Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006, are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about performer-training technique in contemporary theatre.

The Open Sessions, which will be conducted by Dr Frank Camilleri, coordinator of Theatre Studies at the University of Malta, and Mario Ruggeri, artistic director of CIRT Milan, are being held in collaboration with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and with TARF (Theatre Arts Researching the Foundations).

In the sessions, a set number of exercises will be carried out with the aim of equipping participants with skills and tools that are essential to the craft of theatre. These exercises are aimed at enhancing physical flexibility, flow of energy, attention, interaction, and sensitivity to tempo and rhythm. This work will serve as a basis for vocal and song work. Vocal and song techniques (such as text articulation, voice energy, rhythm) will be transmitted within the parameters of the work on intentions and physical actions. The sessions will also include demonstrations of work.

Though the sessions are open to all those who are interested in participating or observing the work, it is necessary that reservations are made by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Confirmation of participation will be sent on receipt of a nominal donation of Lm5 for one session or Lm10 for all three sessions.

For more information on these sessions and on SUPA 2006, send an e-mail to [email protected].
