Motoring: New Fiat Stilo Launched at the Valletta Waterfront

Malta Independent Monday, 24 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The New Fiat Stilo was unveiled on Friday against the beautiful backdrop of the Valletta Waterfront. Ryan Buttigieg, sales and marketing manager of UCIM limited, said that the new Stilo bears testimony of Fiat’s tireless commitment to give motorists what they want. This commitment has delivered a model packed with new style and features. All model versions boast extraordinary attributes and versatility that satisfy the will to travel in absolute freedom.

The New Fiat Stilo is European in flavour with a few touches of unmistakable Italian flair. The new range offers seven brand new body colours. No fewer than 5 new metallic shades are available: Crono Grey, Vitality Blue, Cosmopolitan Blue and the distinctive Techno Grey and Polar Blue. The last two shades are also “lenticular”, i.e. the colour particles are spherical and bind to one another in such a way that they offer greater coverage and more shine. All the shades are inspired by world trends for clothing and designer products. These stylish shades drape the car in exactly the same way as a garment.

The three-door saloon features 16” alloy wheels in a new, more aggressive and sporty design. Brand new painted wheel hubs are also available on the whole range (except on the Actual specification).

The new Stilo power unit range reveals the widest and most comprehensive range in the segment. The choice is between three turbodiesels and four petrol engines, all with four cylinders (except for the powerful 2.4 20-valve five-cylinder unit). Common features include flexibility, running economy and respect for the environment. These are backed by six manual gearboxes (four with five speeds and two with six speeds) and a Selespeed sequential gearbox (exclusive on the 2.4 20v Abarth three-door).

The range has now been joined by the bubbly 95 bhp 1.4 16v Fire and the irrepressible 140 bhp 1.9 Multijet. The New Fiat Stilo boasts also the reliable 80 bhp and 115 bhp 1.9 JTD (Unijet), the powerful 170 bhp 2.4 20v and the tried and tested 130 bhp 1.8 16v and 103 bhp 1.6 16v units.

The diesel versions of the new model extend to a wider public the benefits offered by second generation Multijet Common Rail turbodiesel engines. These offer an improved ratio between performance, fuel consumption and greater respect for the environment.
