A teenager from Ghaxaq was sentenced to five days’ imprisonment yesterday after he admitted filing a false report in which he accused two police officers of drug abuse.

Steve Joseph Caruana, 19, pleaded guilty to filing a false report against two policemen who had stopped him because they thought he had been acting suspiciously on 21 July.

The police officers had in fact, come to the assistance of a motorist who had broken down, but Caruana filed a report claiming that they had been using illegal drugs, which was not true.

Police inspector Raymond Cassar prosecuted while Dr Beppe Fenech Adami was appointed legal aid for Caruana.
