Empowering parents and volunteers to take community-based action to address the educational needs of the school and the community was the main aim behind a training course organised by the Foundation for Educational Services (FES) and Agenzija Appogg.
Participants were awarded a certificate at the end of the 12-week course. They also put forward a proposal for a community project to be carried out at their local school or community. The Cottonera Community Team of Agenzija Appogg, based at Access Community Resource Centre, organised the course.
The participants also organised two five-week courses for other parents in Cottonera on How to help our children with their studies and How to help our children build their self esteem to do better at school.
These were held in Lorenzo Gafa’ Boys’ Secondary School and Birgu Primary School.
