Strada 2006 is being held this weekend as part of the Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006. It will take place in the upper part of Strait Street and South Street in Valletta, from 7.30pm onwards.

Organised by Kris Fenech Soler of Trabuxu and Edward Schembri, the concept behind the creation of Strada was to initiate more entertainment in our capital city, Valletta.

Strait Street and South Street will be drastically transformed for Strada 2006. The rustic walls of Strait Street will become an open-air art gallery which will host an ensemble of local art, including works by Jeni Caruana, Madeleine Gera, Kenneth Zammit Tabona, William Azzopardi and Caroline Navarro among others.

In South Street, vehicles will be replaced by marquees and outdoor seating, with candles and fjakkoli. To further enhance the festive feeling, live acoustic duets will be performing in the streets, giving everyone the opportunity to sample different kinds of music.

Live bands will also be performing throughout the activity, including the Red House Blues Band, Carry, and Pete and Alex. Strada is supported by Marsovin, HSBC Bank Malta plc, Torres, Duvel, Dullard Wine’s, Robert’s Rock, and MCP Floriana.

The Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006 is organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts in collaboration with the Tourism and Culture Ministry. The festival is sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta plc, The Valletta Local Council, Bank of Valletta plc and The Westin Dragonara Resort.
