Argument Lands two men in court

Two men were charged yesterday with slightly injuring each other after they were involved in a fight on Thursday in Iklin.

Anthony Abela, 46, from Iklin and Lawrence Attard, 39, a British national who also lives in Iklin, ended up in court over a fight that broke out because a truck was blocking a drive in Iklin. They were charged separately.

Mr Abela was charged with seriously injuring 74-year-old Joseph Attard and 70-year-old Maria Attard, Mr Attard’s parents, and slightly injuring Mr Attard’s 12-year-old son. He was further charged with breaching the peace and swearing in public.

Mr Attard was charged with insulting and threatening Mr Abela and slightly injuring him.

Before magistrate Jacqueline Padovani, the men pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Mr Abela was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000, and Mr Attard was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm500.

Police inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.

Dr Jose Herrera and Dr Veronique Dalli appeared for Mr Attard and Dr Mario De Mardo and Dr Mario Mifsud Bonnici appeared for Mr Abela.
