VOICES One Family In October

Malta Independent Sunday, 13 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The live performances by the VOICES choir and band will once again hit the big stage on 10 nights between Wednesday 4 October and Sunday 8 October and Wednesday 11 October and Sunday 15 October in the Republic Hall of the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

This was announced by VOICES Committee spokesperson Adrian Mamo during a media launch held at the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort.

Mr Mamo said that ever since its first performance in 1991, which took place to raise funds for St Aloysius College Sixth Form, VOICES has grown to what can now be described as an extraordinary, much awaited event on a scale unsurpassed locally.

As always, the aim of the concerts is to raise positive awareness on social issues and to collect funds. To date, the eight series of concerts performed by VOICES have raised some Lm320,000, which were donated to various local and international charities – UNICEF, Amnesty International, Red Cross International, UNHCR (Malta), the Hospice Movement, Eden Foundation, Jesuit Refugee Service, Puttinu Cares for Children Support Group, YMCA, Daniel Delicata Memorial Association, Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem, Razzett tal-Hbiberija and others.

This year’s concerts are themed: Voices – One Family.

“The main thrust is that of highlighting the principle that the concept of a family – a group of people who share a common characteristic and value – is still the cornerstone of social development and justice. All over the world, people are living various situations of trouble and strife, and most of all, feeling alone. With these concerts, the VOICES team would like to focus on how we all form part of a bigger picture – it being a family, a local community, a nation and so on.”
