The General Workers’ Union will be registering an industrial dispute and resorting to industrial action at ST Microelectronics if a compromise on the collective agreement is not reached during the meeting with the company’s management next Tuesday.
The decision was unanimously approved by the committee during a meeting that was requested by the GWU’s technology, electronics and communication sector. Section secretary Andrew Mizzi attended the meeting together with members of the central administration of the union. The decision to register the dispute was taken because the management’s counter proposals could not be accepted, the union said in a statement.
The GWU section said that, following Tuesday’s meeting with the management, it will be holding a meeting for all union members to inform them of developments in the matter in question.
The GWU expressed the hope that the management of ST Microelectronics will understand the precarious situation and present serious proposals that will lead to an agreement.
