Camilleri Wines’ Pure Maltese identity in La Croce range

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The La Croce range of wines, composed of blends of locally-grown grapes, is the latest addition to Camilleri Wines’ product range. Suitably branded with the distinct eight-pointed cross, La Croce signifies a step forward establishing the true Maltese identity of Camilleri Wines. La Croce is designed to be a wine that is easy to appreciate having straight-forward fruity, attractive qualities that give this brand a very versatile character and very enjoyable on its own or with light cuisine.

“The launch of La Croce came at a time when Camilleri Wines is fervently trying to promote the message that it is the winery whose wines are all produced from grapes grown and harvested in Malta thus offering the public with purely Maltese wine,” explains Josef Bonello, Wine Advisor at Camilleri Wines. “We were after a wine that could reflect both our pride at having all our grapes locally grown but also a national pride in our Maltese identity. The eight-pointed cross is a symbol that all Maltese people are proud of and is an immediately recognisable symbol that breathes our identity – an identity that makes us proud of who we are and what we have achieved.”

Camilleri Wines have come a long way in creating their own identity amongst local wine growers. A newly defined strategy aimed at turning the winery into a fully-fledged household name in the local wine industry was put into practice four years ago and today, Camilleri Wines can boast a varied portfolio of thirteen locally produced wines namely their flagship Palatino range of five wines, the Laurenti Red and White, the sublime Blush rosè wine, the Zigland range of three wines and now the latest addition of two La Croce wines, a red and a white.

“The product, launched on the market almost two months ago, is already gaining a lot of popularity amongst the Maltese wine drinkers who are after a good quality genuine Maltese wine at a very affordable price. The heavy branding that characterises La Croce has also led the product to enjoy an unprecedented success amongst foreigners who are aware that a number of “local” wines on the market are produced from Italian grapes and who are after a genuine Maltese product to enjoy and to take back home,” added Mr Bonello.
