A company that owns a number of tuna pens in Marsascala filed a prohibitory injunction yesterday against a vessel that allegedly caused about Lm1 million in damage to a tuna pen.
Mare Blu Tuna Farm Ltd filed an application to stop MV Coral Water from leaving the island after, the company claimed, it rammed its tuna farm in Marsascala, causing around Lm1 million worth of damage.
In its application, the company claimed that the vessel rammed its tuna farm, situated four nautical miles from Zonqor Point, on the night between Saturday and Sunday. As a result, cables were snapped, the pens were damaged and a number of fish escaped.
In its writ, the company requested the court to deny permission for MV Coral Water to leave Malta before paying for the damage it had caused.
MV Coral Water is registered in Holland. It is over 93 metres long and weighs over 1,890 tonnes.
Dr Cedric Mifsud signed the writ.
