Bank of Valletta is sponsoring Maltese tenor Juan Gambina to participate in The Embassy Series concert in Washington DC.

The concert will be held at the Meridian House International on 6 September in honour of Malta’s National Day.

The Embassy Series is a series of concerts held in embassies in Washington. Their objective is to promote international understanding through music by featuring artistes of high quality from the Washington DC area, as well as from abroad, who have gained international recognition and whose quality merits public support.

Maltese tenor Juan Gambina will delight his audience with a programme of arias and songs by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Tosti, Puccini, Bellini, Cilea, Gounod and Rossini, among others.

Following his appearance in Washington, Mr Gambina will travel to Canada where he will be the guest performer at the annual Bank of Valletta Concert in Toronto on 10 September.

At this concert, which is being held under the distinguished patronage of HE Mr John Lowell, High Commissioner for Malta to Canada, and Mrs Lowell, Mr Gambina will present a selection of some 20 pieces of classical music. He will be accompanied on the piano by pianist Mark Camilleri.

Speaking about the two concerts, BOV representative in Canada Emmanuel Ciappara said: “Bank of Valletta is proud to sponsor Juan Gambina for his participation in the Washington DC concert and we are delighted to welcome this outstanding Maltese tenor to our annual concert in Toronto. Bank of Valletta is a strong supporter of Maltese artistic talent and we feel that these two concerts provide an excellent opportunity for the promotion of this outstanding Maltese artiste away from our shores. We hope that these two concerts will turn out to be important milestones in Juan’s artistic career.”

Juan Gambina started his vocal studies in Malta. After winning a scholarship from the Italian Cultural Institute, he continued his studies in Parma with Carlo Bergonzi, in Milan with Pier Miranda Ferraro, in Palermo with Elizabeth Lombardini Smith and in Bologna with William Matteuzzi. He was also selected to attend masterclasses with Magda Olivero.

After winning various international singing competitions, Mr Gambina has performed as The Duke of Mantova in Rigoletto, Werther in Werther, Fritz Kobus in L’Amico Fritz, Alfredo in La Traviata and Edgardo and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor, among many others.

Numerous performances by Mr Gambina have been recorded for CD, television and radio, namely Lucia di Lammermoor from Teatro San Carlo in Naples, In Memoriam Dylan Thomas from Teatro Olimpico in Rome and La Finta Parigina from Teatro Politeama in Palermo
