Karmen Azzopardi Reminisces at the Manoel

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

On Thursday at 8pm, the Manoel Theatre audience will accompany Karmen Azzopardi on her life-long journey across the stage.

Karmen Azzopardi will be performing selections from Christopher Fry, Henrik Ibsen, Eduardo de Filippo, John Pielmeier, Jay Presson Allen, Jean Anouilh, John Kerr, Tennessee Williams and Berthold Brecht, Francis Ebejer and Euripedes.

An actress of many parts, Karmen Azzopardi co-founded Atturi Theatre Productions, which staged works for Maltese audiences they had never watched. She trained for the stage at the Actors’ Studio in London, and for broadcasting at the BBC. Consequently, she played numerous parts both on radio and television apart from, of course, the stage.

Her last stage appearance was at the Manoel Theatre last year, in the role of Mother Superior in John Pielmeier’s Agnes of God directed by Anthony Bezzina.

Karmen Azzopardi is the recipient of several awards, the latest being the Culture Awareness Award presented by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

Reservations for her performance, which will be assisted by Godwin Scerri and directed by Jon Rosser, can be made from the Manoel Theatre Booking Office on 2124 6389, e-mail [email protected]
