Antonio Vivaldi’s most popular works, the four violin concertos known as The Four Seasons, will be performed today at St Catherine of Italy church at 11am.
Weekly lunchtime concerts have been held there for the past 18 months and are increasing in popularity both with the local audience and tourists.
The Four Seasons is the first in a new and exciting series called “Meet the Composer” produced by St James Cavalier.
During this series, the audience will be introduced to some of the world’s finest composers and given an insight into their compositions and what makes them so special and immortal 300 years down the line.
This informal introduction is great both for first-timers and for regular concert attendees. Experts in the field will guide the audience through the pieces being performed, explaining how the music fits together, and giving a brief history of the composers’ lives and work.
St James Cavalier will also be launching its own chamber string ensemble, the St James Consort, with guest appearances by some of the best musicians on the island.
The solo parts the Four Seasons will be played by Marcelline Agius, Tatjana Chirchop, Nadia Debono and Sarah Spiteri. This event is supported by CityPro, the Valletta Property Specialists.
Tickets, at Lm2 can be obtained at the door on the day of the concert. Children will be admitted free of charge.
