Notte Bianca: Sacred music at St John’s co-Cathedral and St James church

The Collegium Musicum Choir and Orchestra will be performing The Masses at St John’s co-Cathedral under the direction of Dr Mro Dion Buhagiar during Notte Bianca – Lejl Imdawwal on Saturday. The performance starts at 8pm and will include the Grande Messa by Maltese composer Paolino Vassallo and Mozart excerpts.

The Collegium Musicum Choir is the resident choir at St John’s co-Cathedral, Valletta and a well established polyphonic choir on the island. The Grande Messa will feature soprano Anita Saliba, mezzo soprano Connie Francis Zerafa, tenor Charles Vincenti, baritone Alfred Camilleri, and bass Albert Buttigieg as soloists.

Mozart’s Coronation Mass will include soloists Claire Caruana as soprano, mezzo soprano Connie Francis Zerafa, tenor Frans Mangion, and bass Kevin Caruana, who will be accompanied by organist Dr Romina Morrow, together with the Collegium Musicum Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Dr Mro Dion Buhagiar.

The Youth for a United World will present a concert entitled White Light at St James Church, in Merchant Street, Valletta, from 7pm till 1am. Youth for a United World is a youth expression of the Focolare Movement founded by Chiara Lubich. White Light aims to express and communicate an experience of God’s love and the change this love brings about in our lives. Youth for a United World will use music, mimes, slides, dance, animations, painting exhibitions, and video clips to bring across its message.
