One TV Journalist guilty of breach of ethics

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

For a second time, the Press Ethics Committee has found One News journalist Charlon Gouder guilty of breaching Article 4 of the Code of Ethics.

The case involved a report by Mr Gouder on 8 August, which was broadcast on both One News and One Radio.

The report in question featured a recorded telephone conversation with Nationalist Party treasurer Peter Darmanin. Mr Gouder did not ask for permission to record the conversation, nor did he ask if the recording could be used.

The committee said Mr Gouder did not attend the Press Ethics Committee meeting, and Mr Darmanin’s version of events had not been contradicted.

Consequently, Mr Gouder was found guilty of unethical behaviour, and was “seriously censured” by the committee.
