MLP Meets Public Transport Association

Malta Independent Friday, 13 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

A delegation from the Malta Labour Party yesterday had a meeting with representatives of the Public Transport Association to discuss the party’s position paper on the self-employed.

Association president Victor Spiteri complained about the hardships bus drivers have to face every day, especially the increase in the cost of fuel. He said bus drivers are finding it difficult to cope with these expenses which are increasing their cost of living, among other difficulties encountered while providing their service.

On his part, Labour leader Alfred Sant said bus drivers have a very important role to play in the country’s public transport system and this has an effect on the country’s economic development. He said the MLP wants to assist this sector and this was precisely why it drew up a plan to help these people who are operating in such an important sector of the local economy.
