MEP Simon Busuttil visited manufacturing company Baxter Ltd during last week’s Euro-parliamentary constituency week.

Baxter Ltd forms part of Baxter International Inc., a multinational healthcare company spread over 50 different countries and operating out of more than 250 facilities around the world.

During a presentation, general manager Julian Dimech explained how this company evolved, and highlighted the significant milestones achieved over these past years including the acquired certifications for design and control in the manufacturing of its products. Employing around 500 employees, the facility nowadays not only manufactures and supplies a very broad range of sterile, disposable medical devices, but is also involved in the design and development of new products through its local R&D centre.

Dr Busuttil praised the manufacturing company at Marsa not only for sustaining itself in a heavily regulated sector but also for its steady growth. He welcomed in particular the company’s R&D set up.

During a discussion with the company’s managerial team, Dr Busuttil stressed that as a Member of the European Parliament he was keen to give a voice to Maltese manufacturing companies and wanted to hear their views on EU laws and policies that affect them.

He also encouraged the company to make full use of EU funding possibilities, especially through the new EU Research programme, known as FP7.
