One still has to analyse the full impact of the introduction of low-cost carriers. However, airport departure figures show that there was a 5.2 per cent rise in November, and the upward trend is expected to carry on during December, said Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

Speaking during the inauguration of street decorations in Paceville, the minister said that Ryanair carried 5,502 passengers to Malta on the Luton and Pisa routes.

During the inauguration, Dr Zammit Dimech said the Maltese commercial community thinks that street decorations are very important for the season’s business. He added that the tradition of having a crib and a Christmas tree are being encouraged by the Folklore Division within the ministry through competitions.
