One man died yesterday and another was critically injured in two unrelated accidents at construction sites in Sliema.
The police said that reports came in at 11am that a Libyan man had fallen from a height of about four storeys at a construction site in Tigne. Members of the Civil Protection Department were sent to help the man, but he was found to have died at the place of impact.
The other incident occurred at about 8.30am when a man, who was also working on a construction site in Alphonse Street, fell from a height of two storeys through a skylight. The 30-year-old, resident of Sliema, was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital by a paramedic crew where doctors certified that he was in a critical condition.
Duty magistrate Antonio Mizzi appointed two sets of experts to launch an inquiry into the two unconnected incidents.
This was the third construction-related accident in four days. According to the police, a 36-year-old from Kalkara, who fell from
scaffolding in Bulebel on Friday, is still in a critical condition.
