A group of Maltese recently attended Joseph Calleja’s acclaimed performance in the opera Rigoletto at the world-famous Grand Metropolitan Opera House.

The group of 40 Maltese nationals who attended this brilliant performance were in New York as part of another initiative by Renaissance Productions Ltd, Joseph Calleja’s representatives in Malta. The group was accompanied by RPL Director Dr Anton Tabone.

Following the representation, a post-opera dinner was held at the celebrated Café des Artistes close to the Metropolitan itself. Joseph Calleja made an appearance at the dinner to the delight of all present. The guests included Malta’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr Victor Camilleri and Mrs Camilleri, the President of the Maltese Community Centre in Astoria, New York, Mr Anthony Curmi and Mrs Curmi, together with other officials of the Maltese Community Centre.

The visiting Maltese group was also given the opportunity of a private audience with Edward Cardinal Egan, Bishop of New York.

Joseph Calleja, who was recently honoured with the Malta Order of Merit, will be performing eight times at the Metropolitan this season in his role of the Duke. In the meantime, his exceptional performances have secured him a long-term contract at the Metropolitan for years to come.
