Maltapost Manager Regulatory and International Affairs Henry Gauci has been chosen as Employee of the Year for 2006 at Maltapost.
Mr Gauci, who is stationed at Maltapost’s head office at Marsa, carries out duties covering all aspects of international affairs, overseeing Maltapost’s long-standing affiliation to international postal bodies, notably PostEurop and the Universal Postal Union. His duties require frequent attendance at international postal fora, where he has often distinguished himself by his well-prepared contributions on behalf of Maltapost.
Henry Gauci was chosen for this award by a selection board, following his nomination by colleagues at his place of work, who described Henry as having a very positive attitude, as someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand, who is a leader by example and who has a cheerful disposition.
Having started his career as a postman with the then Department of Posts over 35 years ago, Henry has risen in the ranks by dint of perseverance, and developed his talents, culminating in his present post of Manager Regulatory and Internation-al Affairs. This is a post that has been described as calling for a high degree of commitment and diplomacy.
He was presented with the Employee of the Year trophy by Maltapost chairman David Stellini and chief executive officer Joseph Gafà during the annual meeting of Maltapost staff, held recently at the Radisson SAS Baypoint Resort.
In their short addresses, both Mr Stellini and Mr Gafà emphasised the importance of this annual recognition of efforts on the part of the staff to help put Maltapost on a sounder footing, primarily by offering the public a good postal service and also by coming up with suggestions for improving service in the Maltese Islands.
Other awards on this occasion were made to postal employees Charles Borg and Jesmond Pace, who were chosen as Retail Employees of the Year, Robert Borg as Best Employee at Head Office (Administration), Joe Bonanno as Best CMR Employee, Paul Costa as Best Delivery and Courier Employee and Sammy Camilleri as winner of the Best Employee Suggestion Award.
Zabbar Branch was chosen as the best Postal Retail Outlet, a choice based on the lowest number of complaints at this branch and the positive response from customers making use of this retail outlet.
San Gwann hub was chosen as the Best Hub, with last year’s winner, Qormi Hub, obtaining runner-up position. The Best Achievement Certificate was awarded to the Bulk Posting Section.
During the annual meeting, a number of postal employees were presented with special awards to mark their 30, 35 and 40 years of service.
Joseph Falzon received an award for 40 years of
service, and awards for 35-years of service were presented to Charles Camilleri and Henry Gauci.
Awards for 30 years of service were presented to Joseph Theuma, Vincent Zahra, Paul Costa, Henry Hall, Alfred Azzopardi, Mario Vella, Luciano Bonnici, Anthony Zahra, Joseph Grima, Carmel Bugeja, Emanuel Rapa, Lino Angelo Galea, Joseph Armeni, Joseph Azzopardi, Noel Gauci, Joseph Xuereb and Alfred Cutajar.
