Malta Independent Saturday, 23 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The sixth book published under the Fond ghall-Kittieba tal-Malti has been officially launched by APS Bank. The book, entitled Miexi Lejn id-Dawl (Walking towards the Light), was written by the late Fr Joseph M. Ghigo, SJ (1927- 2003).

The book, which is available for sale for Lm3.95 from all leading bookshops in Malta and Gozo, contains a collection of biographical essays divided into 61 chapters that cover the author’s early years living in the south of Malta, through the period he spent receiving his religious Jesuit formation until the time that he was the editor in charge of the Order’s publication Problemi tal-Lum (Today’s Problems).

Fr Ghigo was a teacher at St Aloysius College and a tutor at l’Istituto Arici in Brescia, Italy. His impeccable writing style sees him delving into subjects such as the Vatican Councils and his many pilgrimages to the Holy Land. He was ordained priest in 1957 and studied philosophy in Heythrop and London, theology in Eegenhoven in Belgium and was also a graduate of the London School of Economics.

The Fond ghall-Kittieba tal-Malti provides financial assistance to various Maltese authors in order to enable them to publish their literary works in Maltese. The Akkademja tal-Malti provides technical advice by evaluating the literary relevance of and level attained by each publication.

Those interested in obtaining more information about the six books published to date can contact the bank’s marketing unit on telephone number 2560-3221.
