On Monday police are expected to declare that they have no more evidence to present in court in the case of 35 foreign women who are accused of committing immoral acts in public, participating in a brothel and committing other indecent acts in public, among other charges.

Assistant police commissioner Josie Brincat, police superintendent Charles Bartolo and police inspector Louise Calleja testified before magistrate Antonio Mizzi yesterday afternoon.

The assistant police commissioner spoke about how four women were discovered at Huggies in Bugibba.

One of the women was dancing provocatively, as if she was participating in a sexual act, while the others were simply sitting on stools.

Dr Ian Farrugia, who is appearing for the three women who were sitting on the stools, asked the court to hand down its judgement regarding his clients since it is being said that they were doing nothing.

However, the prosecution objected and the compilation of evidence against the women started.

Meanwhile, on Monday, three police officers – two assistant police commissioners and another officer who filed a report regarding the case – are expected to testify.

The case involves 35 women who all pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. Twenty of the women are Russian, seven are from Ukraine, four are from the Czech Republic, two are from Slovakia, one is from Estonia and another one is from Poland.

Police inspector Louise Calleja is prosecuting, while Dr Joseph Arrigo, Dr Manwel Mallia, Dr Robert Abela, Dr Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, Dr Franco Debono and Dr Charmaine Cherrett are appearing for the accused.
