Initiatives To ease tax burden start this month

Malta Independent Thursday, 18 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Take-home pay for Maltese workers will increase this month, as reductions in income tax come into force, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday.

Speaking at a party activity organised by the PN’s women movement in Qawra, Dr Gonzi said it was now possible to enjoy a number of fiscal benefits as a result of the government’s work to improve the economy and take the country forward.

He said the economy has stabilised over the past 12 months and this has allowed the government to announce initiatives that will increase the taxpayers’ purchasing power. Pensioners, he added, would also benefit from these initiatives.

The Prime Minister said the country was on track to adopt the euro next year and this would be of benefit to both investors and those who travel abroad.
