Adrian Mamo (photo) has been appointed as chairman of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts (MCCA).

This council is responsible for Malta’s cultural policy, in particular in the field of visual and performing arts. The council has over the last year been promoting more high calibre events that not only promote culture and the arts but also add value to the Malta product for the benefit of the Maltese people and visitors alike.

New initiatives have included the revamped Summer Arts Festival at the Old Opera House ruins as well as events such as Notte Bianca, Notte Magica, and an exhibition of children’s paintings from 141 different countries which took off in Malta.

Adrian Mamo is an architect and civil engineer by profession. Graduating from the University of Malta in 1989, he worked for the Antiquities Division of the Works Department. He then spent two years running the video graphics studio of Associated News Ltd before setting up Architects Studio in partnership with three other architect colleagues.

He was responsible for the design of the Malta stand for World Expo 2000 in Hanover, the Visitor Centre of the Hypogeum, the Press Centre for CHOGM and most recently was responsible for the setting of the Summer Arts Festival 2006 around the ruins of the Old Opera House for the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

He has designed numerous stage sets for theatre and television and is one of the founders and current production manager for Voices, a voluntary initiative and Malta’s largest musical event.
