Embellishment work at Spinola Palace Garden in St Julian’s is nearing completion and the area, which had been neglected for many years, is expected to be opened to the public next month, Rural Affairs and Environment Minister George Pullicino said.
The rehabilitation work is being carried out under the Malta Environment and Planning Authority planning gains scheme which envisages that a developer, in this case the Tumas Group, invests in an embellishment project close to an area where development has taken place, in this case Portomaso.
New pavements are being constructed around the garden by the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry, while the Malta Transport Authority is upgrading the traffic management system. The whole project is estimated to cost Lm300,000.
The garden is designed in a baroque style to complement the palace that lies close by, and is symmetrical just like the palace. Modern elements have however been introduced. The garden will be surrounded by a fence and will be closed during the night.
