Court: Charged With evading tax duty on imported digital cameras

A man was yesterday charged with evading tax duty and Value Added Tax on 94 digital cameras imported to Malta.

Godwin Schembri, 56, from Iklin, was charged with failing to declare 93 Minolta and one Olympus digital camera with a total value of Lm4,690. He was charged with evading Lm337 in duty and Lm754 in VAT.

Mr Schembri pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Police Inspector Michael Mallia prosecuted while Dr Edward Zammit Lewis appeared for the accused.
