A business group from the South Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce in the UK visited Malta earlier this week. The group was in Malta to promote products produced in this region and also to establish good business contacts.

The companies represented included producers of snack foods, cider, condiments, pottery, earthenware, crystalware, cutlery and silverware, hand-embroidered soft furnishings, kitchenware, china, Chinese ingredients, frozen meals and beer.

The visit was the joint initiative of the South Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce and the British High Commission in collaboration with the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise.

The group was welcomed to The Exchange by chamber senior vice-president Norman Aquilina, director-general Kevin J. Borg and membership services executive Johanna Calleja.

Mr Borg spoke about the chamber and its role while Mr Aquilina gave participants a brief overview of the food market in Malta.

A number of one-to-one meetings were organised by the chamber for the Staffordshire Chamber members and representatives who were given the opportunity to meet Maltese firms interested in striking business deals of mutual benefit.

Commenting about the event, Mr Borg said that the chamber received positive feedback from both the foreign participants as well as the local business representatives who attended the one-to-one meetings, and that this augured well for similar events which the chamber is planning to hold in the future.
