The Federation of Estate Agents (FEA) has drafted a revised code of ethics.
An independent panel made up of a lawyer and two notaries – one of who is the president of the Chamber of Notaries – will chair this code of ethics. All federation members have signed their commitment to this code of ethics and are obliged to honour the conditions and responsibilities that have been agreed.
The aim of this practice is to regulate the interrelationship between agencies and how they deal with their customers – ensuring that the customer is protected and dealt with in the professional and ethical manner expected.
The ethics committee is under obligation to be available for any cases that may arise and have set up a penalty structure that carries heavy fines for any member who breaches this code. Should a member default more than once, they will risk suspension or expulsion from the federation.
The code was launched during the association’s annual general meeting, during which the new council was elected. The members are: president Douglas Salt, vice-president Trafford Busuttil, secretary Manjri Borg Bindra, treasurer Steve Sant Fournier, public relations officer Ian Casolani, legal consultant Joseph Sullivan, and Gozo representative Joe Mercieca.
The aim of the Federation is to promote the marketing and selling of property in both Malta and Gozo in an ethical and professional manner.
